I seldom dry pump any more. I find the wet pump works better, faster. And, the color stays normal vs getting real red or dark. Also, it just feels better.
I would suggest using a two stage, it is so much easier to master. Just a word of warning, keep track of your cock and balls as they expand in the 2 stage. You can suddenly find yourself too big to get out easily. Blowing them out may sound like fun, but it isn't all the sweet if your nuts really get too big for the opening.
After a couple hours in the wet pump, I do usually do a dry pump on my cock for about 30 minutes to balance the size with my ball.
