It's like those studies of the South Seas islanders done in the 1930's which showed the women to be free and easy with their attitudes towards sex. The woman doing the "sociological studies" simply took these people at their word and released books extolling the virtue of this "healthy" attitude towards sex, etc. Well, it was no such thing. Turns out, the islanders attitudes amounted to "Here comes that crazy white lady; let's give her a stupid line and see if she swallows it!" It turns out that their attitudes towards sociologists were healthier than their attitudes towards sex.
