I've found that by pumping just my cock in a regular tube, before switching to a STJ, gets things going nicely. I've had my best results when doing that. I've also found it very helpful to put the cock tube back on, at low pressures, when I take off the STJ. Keeps things in a good state of pump. If you lose your erection between STJ pumpings, I've found that you do wind up with a scrunched up dick.
