Yes, I've heard that it's necessary to lube. It softens the cock and balls and allows for expansion...there were times I haven't lubed and my cock seemed to be very dry and I didn't acheive my desired results. Don't pay alot for some silly lube just use any lube that isn't water solable..I use olive oil and it works just fine..crisco and vasaline are also good lubricants. As far as the washing..sounds like a personal thing.
