The avi file is compressed using MS-MPEG4.
To see it, you will need the codec to uncompress it. You can check to see if you have the code by doing the following
1)Open up Control Panel
2)Open Multimedia
3)Click on the devices tab
4)Select Video compression codecs
5)MS-MPEG4 must be listed to be able to view the video.

Ok, so you have done all this and there is no MS-MPEG4 listed. What do you do now?
The codec comes with latest versions of Microsoft NetShow (and I think media player as well, although I'm not entirely sure).
So you can search the Microsoft home page (www/microsoft.com), or do a search on the web and find other places.
I did a quick search with Alta Vista and found the following link.

Sorry about the file size.
You might want to check to see if you already have NetShow installed on your PC. If not, it might be just a simple task to do the following steps.
1)Open control panel
2)Open Add/Remove Programs
3)Click on the Windows Setup tab
4)Find the multimedia section and click on the details button
5)You should have MediaPlayer and/or NetShow Player selected (with a tick)
6)If not, check their squares and press ok
7)You will be asked for your Windows95/98 disk, so have it handy.

Sorry for the long instructions, but I hope they help.
Let me know if the instructions work for you - I haven't actually tested it myself, because I already have all these things installed and it works for me.
