Actually, I think you may be confusing two unrelated things. You are aware that pigmentation of human skin is due to the presence or absence of MELANIN, but you seem to have made a leap somehow in relating "melanin" to "melatonin", perhaps because the names are similar. Do I properly infer from your questions that you are trying to determine if men born in sunny climates in mid-summer have bigger penises??? Well, whatever, but for more information (as well as confirmation and other references, since I doubt that you will believe me) see this website:

Now, for information on MELATONIN, go to this website:

There! With about 10 minutes of websurfing, I've provided you with enough information to decide wether or not you want to continue along this line of inquiry, as well as possibly keeping you from making yourself look foolish in the eyes of your professor. One more word of wisdom: don't come to this site in search of unbiased information from the general readership. I'm sure that you are familiar with the concept of a double-blind study. Does this seem like a place where such a strategy could be used? As to your slam about my preparing for a high-school science class, well, in a way that could be. I could be teaching one for all you know, for I've been out of college probably longer than you have been alive.

Best of luck with your research,
Art Fry the Science Guy

P.S. I hope you will consider carefully advice given to you by Technopuppy... I'm generally not impressed by people who try to wow me by sprinkling their conversations with words from a foreign language, and then do not even spell them right! Maybe by "chow" he was inviting us to lunch. If he was attempting to use the Italian salutation, he would have said ciao!
