I use a type of udder balm (Bag Balm) around the openings of my cylinders when I pump. It seems to help in sealing and does a good job in preventing skin irritation where the cylinder contacts my body.
This stuff contains lanolin and petrolatum (vaseline) so you should avoid it if you have problems with those products.
