TJ, your concept of a silk pouch is something
I'm going to have to look at. I'm going to check
at a backpacking store for silk socks, called
liners. It'll save some sewing. The split collar
placed at the base of the rings will keep the
rings from coming off. I just weighed one of
my stainless collars and they weigh in at 6
ounces on my scale. 4 of the rings weigh in at
a little over six oz. The delrin split weighs in at
just one oz. FWIW, ten rings weigh a pound.
The rings are 2" i.d. but I found I could close
the diameter down a little by using liquid tool
dip and coating the rings. This is the same
stuff that you have on the end of pliars or
screwdrivers. The rings must be absolutely free
from any type of contaminants, such as vaseline
etc. What you end up getting is a ring with a
rubber coating (less clanking and a little tigher
fit. I use the 2" ones because I can't get my
nuts through the next size down. The reason a
1 1/2 " split collar will work for me is that you
don't have to clear the nuts, you kind of clamp
it together above the bulge of the nuts.
Let's keep the ideas going on this.
