No need to go electric (never tried it myself) but you should really invest in a good quality pump WITH a pressure guage. That guage is very important. Also the cheap bulb pumps come with cheap tubes that brake if you try to really use it.. I bought one for $20 and it broke in under 3 days. Now I have the Kaplan pump and it works great. It has a standard connector so I can use different tubes with the same pump.
Yes, warm water works well the hand pumps.. Do not try it with the electric ones however.
