I adjust the vacuum to go from 3 - 7, the only way I know this is I take my Vacutech guage and put it in line. The thing they (CTC) call a gauge is worthless, it is just a collapsable section of the hose. I prefer to know what the pressures really are.
The unit is not quiet. It is a piston pump so you have the sound of it to deal with. I have enough tube to put it away from me, sometimes in another room. It does give one hell of a good pump, you've just got to be creative enough to deal with the inconveniences.
Yes you can pump with water, but you can do that with any pump so long as you make sure you are insulated from the electricity, it is also a good idea to have a water trap in line. I sometimes pump while in a hot bath. It gives a nice pump and I can put the unit far enough away to still have a relaxing bath.
Be Safe
