More like Gardnerella. I don't know anyone who does whiff tests nowadays.
If the infection is malodorous, it's clinical by definition--not subclinical.
The odor is not a good diagnostic method. Instead of suggesting antibiotics,
why don't you suggest his girlfriend visit the gynecologist and get a diagnosis
from someone who's finished his residency.
